What is EastWeb?
EastWeb is a sub-fund of the Melbourne Community Foundation. We are a group of committed young people who believe that by encouraging community capacity and self-determination through developing community driven, grassroots projects, we can all help to overcome disadvantage.
We work with the Indigenous, Asylum Seeker and Refugee communities in
Victoria, whose experiences of marginalisation and discrimination affect their ability to fully participate in the community. We’re committed to working collaboratively with communities in a way that fosters equality, understanding and opportunities.
Our Objectives
We aim to support, financially and in-kind, projects that are based in
Victoria that work for and with these communities to fight disadvantage and create long-term change in the areas of:
- health care;
- employment;- education;
- cultural heritage promotion and maintenance.
A New Approach to Philanthropy
We’re working towards breaking down old-fashioned ideas of philanthropy. We believe philanthropy isn’t just for the wealthy. It’s for everyone with any excess resources (wealth, time, skills, etc). It’s about:
- working towards long term change, not band-aid solutions;
- reinvesting in your community;
- sharing wealth and resources equally; and
- making good ideas happen.
This means EastWeb wants to hear about the ways Indigenous, Asylum Seeker and Refugee communities are developing innovative and dynamic ways of addressing challenges in their communities. No idea is too far-fetched or too unpolished – if you have some ideas, come talk to us about how we can work together to make it happen.
What support can EastWeb provide?
EastWeb provides grants of up to $2,000 if:
-
your organisation/community is just getting a project off the ground
-
the project is based in Victoria; and
-
it fosters capacity building in the Indigenous, Asylum Seeker or Refugee communities in any of the areas listed above.
EastWeb may also to be provide in-kind support to your project, by linking you with other groups who may be able to support you, or drawing on our networks to try and ensure your project has the support it needs to get started.
